TEXAS 4000 RIDERS TO ARRIVE IN LAKE CHARLES ON FRIDAY

Riders to Stay Overnight at Lake Charles Yacht Club

On Friday, June 8, roughly 25 bike riders from the University of Texas will arrive in Lake Charles as part of a fundraiser for cancer researchers and patient support providers.

“Texas 4000 envisions a world where all students can become leaders in creating a cancer-free future,” reads the group’s website.

As part of the 15th annual Texas 4000 event, riders will travel 4,000 miles in 70 days. The 70-day bike ride is the longest annual charity bike ride in the world, and the riders have been training for 18 months.

The riders will stay overnight at the Lake Charles Yacht Club, located at 1305 N. Lakeshore Drive. Gumbeaux Gator will greet the riders with Pops and Rockets, and each rider will have the opportunity to enjoy a sailboat ride on the lake with a local resident and Yacht Club member. Before being served a Cajun Jambalaya dinner, riders will hear from Mayor Nic Hunter and Lake Charles/SWLA Convention and Visitor’s Bureau officials.

While there are a number of routes, all paths will bring the riders to the final destination—Anchorage, Alaska on August 10. Along the way, they plan to stop in a number of cities to rest and share their knowledge about cancer research and prevention.
