Business Beat: Dr. Melissa LeBrun with Executive Medical Clinic in Walnut Grove

on

Here’s the first in a new feature called Business Beat. We pick an interesting business with an interesting owner and do a little write-up on them. It’s fun to meet the people that run the local businesses that we use…!

Executive Medical Clinic is located at 2002 W. Walnut St  (Suite 1A) in Walnut Grove. They are a Family Practice Clinic that provides a quality, personalized health care approach in the Lake Area community.

Their tagline is Quality care, close to home.

Meet Dr. Melissa LeBrun (Center):

She’s a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner that has over 9 years of Emergency Medicine experience in the Baton Rouge and Lake Charles area. She first obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University in 2005. She then completed her Nursing degree in 2007 from Our Lady of the Lake College/Tulane Hospital in New Orleans, LA.

Her nursing experience includes Emergency Medicine and Oncology. In 2011, she completed her Master’s degree in Nursing and became Board Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. In December 2016, she completed her terminal degree, Doctorate in Nursing Practice, from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA.

How did the idea for the business from?
While living in Walnut Grove, I thought of a medical concept that incorporated a more personalized provider-patient approach. The Traditional Neighborhood inspired me to develop a medical practice where house calls and a close provider-patient relationship would become common practice again.
Why did you start the business?
My partners and I have seen the lack of Primary Care in this community while working in the Emergency Department setting. Prevention of hospitalizations and emergency department visits by increasing access to primary care is our primary goal.
What’s been the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge is helping people understand the new or shall we say, old concept of house calls and a medical membership. We want to be able to educate about the need for prevention and early management of disease processes. With 24/7 access to a healthcare provider, we are able to better manage illness and prevent hospitalizations.
What’s been the biggest joy?
Our biggest joy is being able to offer unique medical care programs in this community.
What does the future hold for the business?
The future is bright for Executive Medical Clinic of Lake Charles. The community is starting to respond to our services and we are helping to manage individual patient care, as well as, small business medical care.
